Old Gods, the newly-announced DLC pack for Crusader Kings II, allows players to wield the might of the great Norse civilizations in their prime. Expect longships, pagan sacrifice and pine forests aplenty, as evidenced by a new trailer.
In contrast to the core Crusader Kings II experience, which typically revolves around political machination, clever marriage and launching crusades against the unbelieving heathens, The Old Gods is set two hundred years earlier, at the height of Viking power when Christianity had yet to penetrate many of the dark forests of the continent. Players will set out to dominate an entirely new map, control ancient legendary rulers and raid their rivals by sailing fleets of longships downriver.
"Soon Paradox Interactive and Paradox Development Studios will welcome you to a past darker than you can imagine," prattles the blurb, "where there are few shining knights or mighty castles and the kings of Europe are more petty warlords than imposing rulers. We stand only 400 years from the fall of Rome, and a mere 200 from the revelations of Mohammed and much of the world still clings to an ancient code written with iron and blood."
Crusader Kings II: Old Gods is out on May 28th. If you're new to the series, you should probably find out why this grand strategy game is one of the grandest around in our 9/10 Crusader Kings II review.
