Far Cry 4 confirmed for cross-gen: prepare for Himalayan hijinks!

The spate of pre-E3 reveals continues as Ubisoft blows the lid off Far Cry 4, which has been officially announced for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on November 21st.

The anticipated open-world sequel is set in the Himalayas, wherein we'll hunt, sneak, shoot and battle dangerous wildlife in an effort to topple a tyrannical despot.

Far Cry 4 is set in Kyrat: "a breathtaking, perilous and wild region of the Himalayas struggling under the regime of a despotic self-appointed king." Who we'll naturally find ourself on the wrong side of fairly quickly, and set out to humiliate with extreme prejudice. Ubisoft promises to further develop the weapons, vehicles, and animals we loved in the superb Far Cry 3, allowing us to continually explore off-piste and enjoy our own unscripted storylines. Then presumably set stuff on fire and hopefully ride an elephant.

“Following the success of Far Cry 3, we wanted to take the franchise to the next level and create a game that will surprise players and exceed fans’ expectations,” said Dan Hay, Executive Producer in the gushing press release. “Given the unique setting, we feel Far Cry® 4will stand out as a top first-person shooter and we’re eager to reveal more about the game in the coming months.”

We'll get more details at E3 - but what do you want from Far Cry 4? Do you know the definition of insanity?Sound off in the comments!

Fantastic news. I absolutely loved Far Cry 3 (and Blood Dragon), so I'm looking forward to this immensely. :D

Fingers crossed for the main baddie to be as great a character as Vaas was in FC3. He looks the part in that cover art.

Ouch @ Nintendo's exclusion, though.
2012/2013 - Ubi are the Wii U's biggest third party supporters
2013 - "Wii U Exclusive" Rayman Legends gets delayed on the U and is released on other platforms
2013/2014 - Watch_Dogs, possibly Ubi's most anticipated title in years, is delayed a few months to June 2014 on all platforms and still has no release date for the U.
2014 - Far Cry 4 announced for PC, Xbox and Playstation only.

Not really a FPS fan and never played the series but....

I really thought that picture was a spoof.

I don't really like FPS either but Far Cry 3 was a hoot!

I'm not a great fan of single player games, a lot of the time the stories grind on, forced cut-scenes about characters I don't care about.

The exception is Far Cry 3, where it is one of the few single player games I've played right through to the end and then some. The story was good, almost believable, the missions were fun and it all came down to one decision. :P

Hoping Far Cry 4 is just as good, thou' my dilemma is as always... Buy when released and suffer the price + DLC costs or wait a couple of years for the "Complete edition".

I thought Vaas was scary. Even the thought of a bleached blonde, flamboyantly dressed Patrick Stewart terrifies me.oO

More than anything, I hope he's the player character.

We already know that Far Cry is all about exceptional funtimes now. Perhaps the despot gets dethroned and needs to take back his kingdom one outpost at a time?

And now I can't unsee Patrick Stewart.
