What Happened In '62?

An odd live-action teaser suggests that 2K Games are set to make an announcement on April 26th. The strange video, which shows a child merrily cycling in 1962 along before noticing something in the sky, contains a cleverly-hidden mention of "Apr 26th" and "2K" (look at the right-hand side of the screen from 0:15).

So, 1962. 2K. Strange happenings. This all points to 2K Marin's XCOM shooter, which may have been completely rebranded following the icy response to its initial reveal. Since its official site and YouTube videos were taken offline a few days ago, a Friday re-reveal is looking very likely indeed. UPDATE: now this is happening.

Someone please care about our game.

We are doing our best to generate hype but for some reason no-one seems to be interested in another game from a previously over butchered IP.

We're also worried that the recent proper X-COM game that was good and that people bought (after we said people didn't want that kind of game) might make us look bad.

"APR 26" probably means they're hoping to have the game created by April 2026.

Darn it, I was thinking it might an X Com expansion set in the 1960's. Maybe it would work, maybe it wouldn't.. Could be less shiny and futuristic than the current X Com.

Could possibly be something to do with the ios version, that was recently announced.

Edit:
Or not.

More intel, guys! http://www.dealspwn.com/2k-marin-confirms-evolved-xcom-shooter-reveal-137567

EDIT: Maybe it's just me, but hasn't this confirmation totally declawed the hint of mystery and speculation of the viral vids? Like, we were just starting to have fun theorising about other possibilities. I don't really know why they put this one out.

Agreed!

If you like a mystery trailer, then this announcement has made a mockery of the viral trailer (and pretty effectively stopped it becoming "viral").
If you don't like vague mysterious trailers that tell you absolutely nothing - and I'm probably in that group - then the whole thing makes no sense.
Either way, it's definitely decidedly strange to tease something then reveal it straight away.

Best guess - the trailer was supposed to be out there for two days before we got any details, but the left hand doesn't know what the right hand's doing, to use the old cliché.
