Crysis Maximum Edition @ Tesco [PC Games]Anyone who’s thinking of going in for this weekend’s Steam deal where you can get 50% off Crysis and Crysis Warhead – they’ll set you back something like £9.99 each – don’t! A fantastic deal going on the Tesco Ent. website where you can get your hands on Crysis: Maximum Edition (which features all three Crysis platforms) for just £11.97.

For those who have not come across the Crysis series before, it’s a must have addition to you game’s collection and one of the most fun first person shooters money can by. Developed by a company called Crytek – the same people behind the Far Cry series – Crysis sees you assume the role of an elite member of US Special forces. Sent in to investigate the kidnapping of several Western archaeologists who have been taken captive by a fanatical North Korean army general, your four man squad must infiltrate a remote tropical island in an attempt to free the hostages…I know I know, yawn!

However what’s great about Crysis is the fact your squad are all encased within high tech nano suits which basically give them the powers of a superhero. Your suit has four different special abilities: strength, speed, shield and stealth, and it is possible to cycle through and select whichever ability you need for a particular situation. So, even though heavily outnumbered, you can just run through levels like Luke Skywalker on crack, hurling enemies of cliffs, levelling buildings with a single punch or walking straight past enemies whilst invisible.

The sequel Crysis Warhead lets you assume the role of a different squad member called ‘Psycho’ and play through various missions which parallel the narrative of the first edition. The Crysis: Maximum Edition also features a multiplayer format where you can try your hand at co-op missions with friends or else opt for some good old death matches. Although similar in terms of visuals to the Far Cry series, in my opinion anyway, Crysis is far far better…
