Trying To Avoid Console "Compromise"
Crytek CEO Cervat Yerli reckons that Crysis 3 will reclaim the series' title as a PC graphics benchmark, literally promising to "melt down" PCs at highest settings.
When asked whether the "will it run Crysis?" meme would make a return with the newly-upgraded version of CryEngine 3, Yerli rose to the challenge.
“That joke will be resurrected again with Crysis 3, I’m quite sure about that,” Yerli said during a livestreamed Gamescom Q&A session. “There are brutal expectations around the PC version of Crysis 3. So this time we promise to melt down PCs.”
Yerli also suggested that the Crysis 2, which failed to particularly impress, was hamstrung by its cross-platform development - leading to a "compromise." This time, Crytek are determined to prioritise the PC and "push" the consoles up to standard.
“There is unfortunately always in a multi-platform development that kind of compromise that we have to take, but at the same time we are trying not to take it, so we try to make sure that the PC version looks fantastic, plays fantastic. This time we’re saying, ‘Okay, let’s not compromise the PC but let’s try to push the consoles so make the PC version happen.’”
