Crytek Tease "Spectacular" Game Announcement In April

Crytek's GM of games, Nick Button-Brown, has teased that the company will be announcing a "spectacular" new game in April, adding that he thinks it's "the best of that kind of project we've ever done."

Acknowledging Crytek's recent involvement with smaller, mobile titles and the free-to-play market, Button-Brown also stressed that Crytek were still committed to big-budget development as well.

"There are so many things I can't talk about," said Button-Brown to CVG at GDC.

"A big part of our business is big budget console and PC games. We are doing all these other things, but they're on top of that and we're doing them because they're interesting.

"We still want to deliver the highest quality that we can, wherever we go," he added. "You know about Homefront, you know about Ryse. We are working on another project... [laughs] all three of which are looking really good."

He noted that spirits are extremely high, suggesting that this would be a typically visually impressive title.

"The other project looks absolutely fantastic - I mean, genuinely the best of that kind of project we've ever done.

"It looks spectacular, the team are doing really, really well and it's just really nice to see the team really enthusiastic about what they're doing. They're really happy.

"We're going to carry on doing those games. We like doing mobile games, we like doing free-to-play, but we also like blowing things up in a visually stunning style."

What do think it could be? Crysis 3? Timesplitters 4? Or perhaps something completely new?

Please, please be Timesplitters 4 (or should it be 3, as Future Perfect wasn't a numerical sequel?)

Timesplitters 2 and Future Perfect are the best splitscreen multiplayer games ever, hands down!

I am down with that. Spent many an awesoem hour on Time
Splitters.

Just as long as it can have 4 local players with some dumb bots to kill... so many games do online only now and it's just not a social when you have mates over.

Oh god please be time splitters. Never ever played a game so fun. Splitscreen, AI, the challenges, modes, weapons, singleplayer. I will THROW money at crytek if its true.

If the team is happy, that's melting snowmen in glorious HD.

So, I had an e-mail about Far Cry 3 last night... I hope this is not the "Spectacular" news, as I wouldn't consider that spectacular - more inevitable.

Far Cry 3? I think you mean Crysis 3.

DivideByZero  Mar. 13, 2012 at 12:56

No... I did not get an e-mail about Crysis3... I got an e-mail about Far Cry 3.

Far Cry 3 has nothing to do with Crytek.

Does it not? Same engine isn't it? Crytek Cryengine? Or was that purely the first Far Cry game?

Oh my bad, unisoft ripped off the CryEngine and created the Dunia engine and FC3 will use that.
