Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition May Relax GFWL Restriction

Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition was recently confirmed for PC. Hurray! And then, sitting on the happy announcement like a tick, were four little letters: GFWL. The inclusion of Games For Windows Live support has proven to be incredibly controversial with gamers, who took to Change.org in their thousands.

It seems that the petition hasn't gone unnoticed, because publisher Namco Bandai may soon have "another announcement" regarding alternate DRM solutions.

Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition Confirmed For PC

After heeding the online petition (and teasing us something rotten), From Software has announced that Dark Souls: Prepare To Die Edition is headed to PC on 24th August. This expanded version of the hard-as-nails action RPG will include new environments, items and bosses - as well as improved graphics. It's unclear whether this exclusive content will also be delivered on consoles via a rumoured DLC expansion, but we'll keep you posted.

Interestingly, Games For Windows Live support has also been confirmed. We've got a new trailer after the break, and more details are set to release over the next few hours.

Namco Considering Dark Souls On PC?

Online Petition Grabs Their Attention

Dark Souls launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in October of last year, and has been ruining the mental state of its unwitting customers ever since. From Software's punishingly difficult dungeon crawler is a work of art; if you're idea of art is tearing your own hair out by the handful and erecting a shrine from the shattered remains of broken controllers. PC fans, obviously of a sadomasochistic slant, have been clamoring for a Windows port for months now, and it appears an online petition with over 65, 000 signatures might have gotten their attention...

Dark Souls DLC On The Way?

EGM purports that From Software are developing a DLC pack for Dark Souls. The report, based on intel from an anonymous source close to the project, suggests that the expansion is in the final stages of development and is taking aim for a late March release. EGM has also spotted a Namco Bandai trademark for "Forest Of Darkness," which is suggestive if nothing else.

This report does somewhat contradict Director Hidetaka Miyazaki's earlier statement that they're "not planning any DLC," but we'll keep you posted.

Dark Souls: All Saints Day Trailer Shows Off Big Boss Misery

Demon's Souls was rather like Marmite in many ways and its offspring looks to be very much in the same vein (it's kicking my butt right now). But love it or hate it, you can't deny there are some gloriously big bosses out there just waiting to squash you into the dust over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and o.....

Dark Souls Preview | Too Difficult Even For Developers

As a Namco Bandai rep ushered us into the small, closet-sized room hiding Dark Souls away, a palpable foreboding settled amongst us huddled journalists. Nervous looks were exchanged, sheepish smiles, as each of us politely held the door, no-one wanting to enter first. "No, please; after you."

When we'd finally settled down, a From Software dev with an incongruous smile and cheerful mood fired up an all new, never-before-seen level from Dark Souls. And in order to show off just how difficult the game is, they wouldn't be pulling any tricks such as invincibility or god-mode. They died five times. In less than ten minutes.

Dark Souls isn't going to be easy, folks. In fact, the spiritual successor to the notoriously difficult Demon Souls is set to be even more sadistically cruel. I suggest investing in a controller or two, in case you happen to shatter yours on a nearby wall. If you want to be in with a fighting chance come October of this year, publishers Namco Bandai are holding a competition wherein fans patent a shield, with the best design making it into the game itself.
