New Game Already Signed By Publisher
Twisted Metal and God Of War director David Jaffe has founded a new studio... or should that be consulting supernatural detective firm that makes games in its spare time.
Talking to Polygon, Jaffe detailed his plans for the newly-formed Bartlet Jones Supernatural Detective Agency. According to the outspoken designer, the company is bankrolled by an 80 year-old demon hunter, acting as a "full-service ghost hunting, ghost removal and spectral analysis agency" specialising in "lycanthropic capture," "astral projection" and "demonic exorcism up to level 8 class demons."
However, their charter also states that "when we can't make any money doing the sorts of supernatural things listed above, we make video games."
Cracking stuff, but in practical terms, this also means that Jaffe is working on a new title that has already been signed by a publisher. "A lot of people have speculated it is Sony because we had a relationship with them," he told Polygon, "but I can tell you we saw some of the usual suspects and some of the non-usual suspects." Ubisoft and Microsoft are also in the frame.
The mystery title hasn't been identified, but Jaffe is adamant that it isn't a God Of War or Calling All Cars successor.
"Ican't tell you where it is going to end up," he said. "I can tell you it is designed from the ground up, very much like when we did God of War, to be a franchise with legs and a brand that we think has a lot of potential, but it's always important to keep your eyes on the prize and stay focused on the first bullet out of the chamber.
"I wouldn't say it's a grand huge epic game like Skyrim, but I will say when people play it, hopefully they will have a huge amount of fun and immediately see it is a portal into a much bigger universe in terms of IP and story and character. But the first thing they play may not necessarily, it might, but it may not necessarily be some big epic adventure. It's more of a universe we're designing and building multiple things within it."
