David Jones, the esteemed creator of Lemmings, the original Grand Theft Auto and my personal favorite, Crackdown, has had it hard of late. His ambitious project, the gang warfare MMO, All Points Bulletin, was a flop of truly epic proportions and played no small part in Real Time Worlds' closure. However, GamersFirst purchased the rights to APB in November of last year and began work on a follow-up, Reloaded. And now it's all come full circle, with Jones joining GamersFirst in an "advisory role".
All Points Bulletin Reloaded is opting for the free-to-play route, with GamersFirst presumably recouping development costs from premium content. APB was an incredibly ambitious project, but a combination of poor marketing, a slew of launch issues and just plain bad luck resulted in its abrupt termination. Jones is said to be sharing "his vast game design experience during critical design stages of the ongoing development on All Points Bulletin Reloaded," according to GamersFirst. Maybe Jones can finally realize his vision the second time around? [Joystiq]
