Dead Rising 3 Devs: Frame Rate Will Be Solid At Launch

"Give Us A Break"

Dead Rising 3 is one of the Xbox One's most promising launch exclusives, but Capcom Vancouver have come under a fair bit of flack for a seemingly inconsistent frame rate in public appearances and trailers. Producer Mike Jones has spoken out to set the record straight, promising that they're still working on optimising the ambitious open world game as their last major priority.

“We’re still optimising it," Jones confidently told Capsule Computers [via CVG] "It’s not finished."

“That’s the last thing you do, once it’s complete and you have all the world built, all the missions built and everything in there, then you start optimising, Then you start getting the frame rate up there, getting the performance up there."

Jones hit back at the criticism the team have received over the last few months, suggesting that - in no uncertain terms - we should just relax.

“People have noticed, I’ve seen articles hit the web just last week when we were at Tokyo Game Show, from our Gamescom build to our Tokyo Game Show build. It is similar content, and a similar area of the world so people who saw it at Gamescom and saw it at Tokyo Game Show were like ‘oh shit they weren’t lying, they actually did optimise everything, and the framerate is totally solid now’, and we’re like ‘See? We’re not done, we’re still working on it! Give us a break, there’s two more months till we come out! We’re human beings too! We have feelings too!’"

Jones also suggested that they were forced to develop for a continually-changing target as the Xbox One drivers and hardware continually changed, but that Microsoft were exceptionally helpful throughout the process.

“We re-wrote our entire engine for Xbox One, and then we were getting new development shit, and new information about the hardware, and we were working with Microsoft trying to optimize everything and it is insane what our development team has been able to do. We’ve just been thrilled working with Microsoft and how our team has risen to the challenge to make the biggest, most ambitious Dead Rising yet.”

The proof will be in the pudding. Hopefully it will be delicious, and not have that horrible custard skin on top.

In fairness, it often feels like the devs can't win. Consumers whine like babies that they want content, and when they're given content, which is obviously unfinished, they whine like babies.:|

i think its pretty reasonable to ask for a game on a brand new "state of the art" (to use Microsoft's language) console to run at 60 fps. 30 fps means the system is not powerful enough or the the devs havn't optimized efficiently
