Dealspwn Playthrough | Guild Wars 2 Beta - Sylvari Start Area, Economics, & Crafting

Dealspwn Playthrough is back with three episodes focusing on ArenaNet's upcoming MMORPG Guild Wars 2. In the first episode we will be taking a look at the Sylvari race, going through their character creation options and their start area. We'll also be taking the opportunity to look at the economic systems of the Auction House and the microtransaction Gem Store, and we take a look at the crafting systems by having a go at some cooking. Hit the jump to see the video, as well as some words on the unique race.

In an effort to break away from the status quo, ArenaNet have tried to move away from the traditional fantasy setup. They already killed off all the dwarves in the world of Tyria, but that wasn't enough. While the Human, Charr, Norn and Asura races cover a range of appearances, a "beautiful" race (for lack of a better term) was missing. Elves would have been the easy, predictable, and boring route out of the problem, so the creative minds at ArenaNet got to work on crafting a brand new species; the botanical-based Sylvari.

Inquisitive of the new world they are still relative newcomers to, the Sylvari believe it is their destiny to fight the elder dragons that now terrorise Tyria. Through their bond of the Pale Tree, which connects everyone in their species even before birth, they aim to make their place amongst the other races of the land.

While at first glance there are obvious similarities to Elves in both a cosmetic and a spiritual sense, there is something highly commendable about the job ArenaNet have done to craft this new species for their game, creating a rich backstory for the Sylvari. The bright colours of their homeland in comparison to the others available is a welcome change of palette, and just by going through the character creation options you can tell that a lot of love has been put into bringing them to virtual life.

We'll be back later on this afternoon with our second video on Guild Wars 2, which will focus on the Asura start area, as well as what happens before the starting sequence, and we also have a video guiding you through the World Vs World PvP coming up as well.
