Deathsmiles Deluxe | £9.85 | Zavvi | Xbox 360

Zavvi tends to march out this deal every once in a while, which soon sells out in short order. Get it while it's hot! Deathsmiles Deluxe is easily one of the best Shoot ‘Em Ups on the Xbox 360 - if not the best - and is the definitive edition of Cave’s arcade classic. Responsive controls, bags of replayability and eyepopping visuals make for a seriously epic package. There’s a case to be made that the infinite continues and lack of unlockables were a missed opportunity… but frankly, you should give this one a go and get involved.

May be great if you're a big shoot-em-up fan - but to the neutral (I liked R-Type, back in the day, but I'm not really a fan of the genre) this game's rubbish.

Maybe there's more to it than you get from your first play through, but that one game was enough for me to relegate it to the dusty stack of games in the spare room. It's extremely rare for a game to get promoted from there to the shelf in the front room - don't think I'll see it again.

Must echo your sentiments - was lucky enough to get this through GAME's price error a few months back for less than £2 and having played a couple of stages, I really wouldn't be comfortable paying much more than that for it.

Bargain price for a feature packed game.

I suspect many people don't see the value as they consider repeatedly hitting 'continue?' until the credits roll to be "completing" the game.

Deathsmiles Deluxe is certainly a divisive little title. It sets out to provide a perfect port of a technical arcade classic and absolutely delivers - but yes, you'll need to adopt the right mindset and strict self-discipline in order to make the most of it.

I can appreciate that, for those of us who aren't SHMUP connoisseurs, Deathsmiles might be a miserable experience. This is a perfectly valid point of view and I'll be sure to present both sides of the equation if a similar deal comes up in future. Always drop in a second opinion!
