The Fires of Bacon mark the MacGuffin for which Deathspank is questing in this third outing for the bumbling hero from Hothead Games. Due to land on PC, PSN and XBLA this summer, Hothead have promised 'countless gameplay improvements to the combat system' along with 100 new quests, more than 70 characters, 80+ new weapons, new areas to explore and a mega-tough difficulty level.
Developed without the assistance of Ron Gilbert, who is believed to be frolicking about the Double Fine studios of late, The Baconing will see our hero meet his 'most dangerous foe yet in the Anti-Spank', and he'll get a shiny new sidekick in the form of Bob From Marketing, whose special moves include 'laser eye beams'; eating 'dead bodies to restore health' and eating 'live bodies as an additional attack option'.
Furthermore, Hothead have said that the enemies in the game will be smarter than those in previous games and that 'player's will now feel compelled to use tactics and strategy to defeat their opponent'. There'll even be cover points strewn across the various battlegrounds for Deathspank to cower behind if need be.
We gave the original game a 7, but criticised it for failing to distance itself from the very thing it was satirising in terms of gameplay. Hopefully these improvements will mean The Baconing can be both funny and fun. [via Kotaku]
