We're very much of the opinion that developers should delay games to guarantee quality, so by that logic, DriveClub is going to be a barnstormer. This PS4-exclusive racer was originally slated to launch with the console, but was held back due to polishing concerns, which raised eyebrows across the internet and made Need For Speed: Rivals very happy indeed.
However, Sony has finally revealed the definitive release date for Evolution Studios' delayed driving experience in a brand new trailer.
Specifically: October 8th 2014.
There are delays and then there's delays that take the best part of an entire year, but Sony's Shuhei Yoshida assures us that the time was well spent. "We planned for the game to be ready for early 2014 and are committed to delivering on our ambitious promise of creating a truly innovative, socially connected racing game," he wrote on the PS Blog. "The problem with being ambitious is you have to be prepared to accept there will be challenges along the way. What DriveClub offers has not been previously achieved in this category and because of this, the team needed more time to give you the game you're waiting for.
"Your anticipation for the title since my last update has been a huge source of motivation for the team at Evolution Studios, and I know they are all extremely grateful for your continued support."
So here's hoping that DriveClub plays as good as it looks, in which case. I personally find it interesting that Evolution's Paul "Rushy" Rustchynsky has taken the role of game director, since it suggests a little restructuring, regorganisation and a change of focus behind the scenes, all of which could well have added to the delay.
Anyway, sound off. Still excited for DriveClub? Defected to The Crew? Have your say in the comments!
