Two pieces of Destiny news for you today. First up: Bungie's ambitious shooter has received a new gameplay trailer, which admittedly takes an age to build up and wastes half of its runtime on dramatic camera pans. However, it's still worth a watch if you're intrigued about the upcoming cross-generation title.

You'll also be able to play it early, should you pre-order from a "participating retailer." Bungie confirms that certain pre-orders will come with beta access, which will "include a diverse sampling of major activities featured in the full game." The beta site is live, though participating UK retailers haven't been fully confirmed yet. Festivities kick off in "early 2014" ahead of a full launch later next year.

One thing that bothers me about all the Destiny coverage - what is the logo supposed to be, exactly? I can't help but think "mutated triple ballsack" whenever I look at it

Excuse me while I geek out for a second...

As far as I can tell, the Destiny logo is a derivation of Bungie's Seventh Column symbol - a central pillar surrounded by several foundations representing the community/their long-term goals and aims. The numbers 7 and 3 hold huge significance for Bungie (references and numerological puzzles are buried deep into every game they make - including the number of needles it takes to create a super combine, the names of the Monitors and even clip sizes/reload times - don't even get me started on Marathon).

There's therefore likely to be a highly pretentious reason why the Destiny logo looks like a triple bollock, basically.

EDIT: looks like "bollock" is unaffected by the profanity filter. Interesting.
