Avalanche Studios are really the studio that Pandemic always wanted to be. Avalanche make incredibly fun, often deliciously OTT games like Just Cause 2.
And they came painfully close to brokering a deal with LucasArts that would have seen them make an enormous open world Star Wars title. Sounds awesome, right?
Let that sink in. Now remember that when it comes to Star Wars and video games, we're no longer allowed nice things.
In a week that has seen Disney sign the exclusive gaming rights for making Star Wars games over to EA, former Avalanche Studio Manager Oskar Burman had a little Twitter exchange with Avalanche's current Chief Creative Officer, Christofer Sundberg.
Speaking about Swedish love for Lucas' space opera, Burman tweeted, "Actually, wanting to work with SW goes deep in Swe [Sweden]. Long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, we almost got that deal when I was at Avalanche."
"If they had given us the deal back then Lucas Arts would be alive today," replied Sundberg. "A massive SW open world game! We would have rocked it."
I'm sorry, I thought you said massive Star Wars open world game...
"Very much agree," said Burman. "You'd done wonders with the SW license. Single player, open world, travel in galaxy, do missions. Yummy!"
Oh hi there Mr. Salt. I'd like to introduce you to Mr. Wound.
Altogether now... NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!
