Diablo fans; we're afraid we have some bad news. While the much-anticipated third entry was expected to release later this year, Blizzard has announced plans to move the launch date back to an early 2012 window. According to Blizzard, the game is "almost ready", although they're not quite so satisfied with the quality to release it just yet. And considering their pedigree, its hard to disagree.
"With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible. However, we didn't put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready," explains Blizzard CEO and co-founder, Mike Morhaime. However, with every cloud comes a silver-lining, with Blizzard extending the closed beta test for fans beyond initial plans. "The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we're taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players. Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers."
