DICE Shares The Load With Bioware On Mass Effect 3 Development

Mass Effect 3 is due for release this year, and to meet this deadline Bioware has enlisted the help of fellow EA developers, DICE, to assist in development of the game's slew of weapons, factors such as bullet damage and ballistics, as well as environmental damage and acoustics. With Bioware making great strides with their combat system, adding DICE's own unique experience in crafting well-designed shooting mechanics can only help make Mass Effect 3 a far smoother, more refined and enjoyable experience.

Despite being hard at work on their own big-budget blockbuster, Battlefield 3, DICE is no stranger to lending a helping hand in outsource development within the EA hierarchy. They helped Criterion develop the exterior locations in Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, and the motion-capture system utilized by Fifa, ANT, was implemented by DICE themselves, and is being included in their upcoming Battlefield 3 title. This is doubtlessly very good news, but is anyone else slightly worried about another extremely fast dev cycle for a BioWare RPG? Two years was arguably not enough for Dragon Age II, and led to a fair few corners being cut.

I thought that about how fast the ME3 turnaround has been, but with news that DICE are helping out in the development work, it doesn't seem so bad. I remember when EA offhanded the multiplayer part of Medal of Honour to DICE, and being honest - that was the best part of the game!

Bioware and DICE are becoming my two favourite game dev houses so ME3 might well end up a preorder (ME2 was my first ever preorder). I've just preordered BF3 as well!

Only just becoming? You've got an insanely good back catalogue to check out then! ;) (Kotor 1&2, Neverwinter Nights, BF1942, BF2, BF:Vietnam, BF2142)

Completely with you on that.

Not to mention Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, Jade Empire and (I almost completely forgot about this one) MDK 2.

Damn I love BioWare...but we're keeping that on the DL right now because Dragon Age II was so utterly pants by their standards.

As a huge fan of the Mass Effect series, I don't want to see a rushed, flawed product released when the time comes around where ME3 gets released.

Mass Effect 1 was released in 2007, 2 was released last year... So, this tells me that they are indeed rushing forward with the 3rd one. It's not a good idea for such a wonderful game series as Mass Effect to lose it's preciousness by having the final game (of Shepard's arc) be wasted through rushing everything.

It's times like these I want that man from the old Grolsh adverts to step in... "Shtop, shtop! It'sh not ready yet!"
