With such disparate ways to play the game nobody will know what (exclusive) bonuses they will find most useful until they are playing it already. General pre-order bonuses are okay but I continue to dislike the artificial store-specific bonuses. In this though case there's no point in not just buying the cheapest one.

Why spend so much time making a game and balancing the progression curve when you're just going to shove people along with extra powers/money/stats. It's like everyone starting Monopoly with 2 of the red/orange/yellow proprties already, an extra £500 and a get out of jail free card. It makes it a different game.

I don't so much mind that you can pick one of the packs and get a boost. After all it's not dissimilar to picking a class at the start of your game. (Yeah it means you're stuck with that "class" but you usually are by the time you know you would've actually preferred another - because you're too far through a game to want to start over).

If all of the downloadable upgrade packs are available to purchase and can be run simultaneously, on the other hand, I'm opposed.
Telling people they need to pick a class is one thing. Telling people they can be all classes simultaneously if they transfer some money into the company's bank account is another thing entirely.

To use Korma's analogy, I don't mind playing Monopoly with everyone having 3 fairly equally valued properties and/or a bit of extra cash.
I wouldn't be too happy if I started with 2 properties and some of the other players started with 7 or 8 properties though...

It's certainly much worse for multiplayer games if you get clear advantages from it, maybe Monoply wasn't the best example as this is a single player experience.

They come as a DLC code I imagine, so if you wanted to buy the codes for the others on ebay for a few quid each you could maybe.
In Fallout New Vegas there was one pre-order pack that gave you a water canteen that would replenish your health a little every so often. In Hardcore mode it staves off dehydration, giving much greater flexibility.

No other pack came close to having something as useful and that was the only way to get the item, by pre-ordering from a specific store. When the GOTY edition came out you had every pre-order pack activated at once when you started a game.
