Disney Applies For "Seal Team 6" Trademark

The Walt Disney Company has applied for a trademark for "Seal Team 6," the name of the Navy Seal unit that successfully killed Osama Bin Laden in last month's sensational Pakistan raid. The application lists a range of related products which reportedly includes "entertainment and education services, clothing, toys, games and Christmas stockings."

The worrying thought of Seal Team Six-branded Christmas stockings notwithstanding, this could well mean that Disney Interactive have designs on creating a game based on the unit - if not the actual raid itself. This isn't the first time that a company has attempted to register military term (such as Sony's attempt to trademark "Shock And Awe" in 2003), but for now, we have to wonder exactly what Disney plans to do with the trademark if successful. We'll keep you posted. [Forbes]

That will be interesting, given that the US government has ALSO applied to register 'Seal Team' as a trademark!
