Ninja Theory are going to meet the negative fan reaction from Capcom's plethora of hysterical die-hards head-on, confirming during a Comic-Con panel that DmC: Devil May Cry will be receiving an online demo, and dropping a new trailer for the game.
Producer Alex Jones spilled the beans over the weekend, although Capcom are yet to confirm a date. He also asserted that there will be no on-disc DLC, with Ninja Theory's Dominique Matthews revealing that DmC will sport "a few novelty modes", unlocked on completing the game.
The panel appearance also revealed that Mundus, the big bad from the original game, will make a return as the ruler of the underworld in this reboot.
Capcom have previously stated that Vergil would not be a playable character in the game. "I want to be definitive," Jones said last month. "He's not playable in the game. I don't want to be coy about that and have people think they're getting one thing when they're getting another."
However, it would seem that his statement has undergone a sight revision in the last couple of weeks. Pressed by Joystiq on the matter, Jones said that playable Vergil code "will not be on the disc", perhaps hinting towards some unannounced DLC.
One final tidbit that got reiterated: the PC version of DmC will tick along at 60 FPS with enhancements, with the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions capped at 30 FPS.
Whether or not the emergence of a demo will hopefully finally stop a meaty chunk of the backlash that has plagued Ninja Theory's reboot since its inception remains to be seen. We actually thought it was rather fun, and you can read all about our hands-on time with the game in our DmC: Devil May Cry preview.
