DONTNOD Entertainment, a boutique studio situated in the heart of Paris, has been quietly poaching a massive stable of experienced developers from Ubisoft, EA and Criterion. They're now seventy-strong and gunning for a new big budget title based on French science fiction and comic books. We're rather excited about the idea, and we have the full details below.
According to DONTNOD, this new project has been in development since early 2008, featuring a scenario created by the "leading light of French science-fiction" Alain Damasio, and art direction led by the world renowned artist Aleksi Briclot. The studio is staffed by a whopping seventy coders, artists and writers, many of whom have been headhunted from major triple-A outfits such as EA, Ubisoft and Criterion. Though they still haven't revealed the name, mechanics or even the genre of the new title, we do know that it will be powered by the faithful Unreal Engine 3, and promises to deliver a "powerful narrative" along with thought provoking themes.
Staying faithful to the rules of the genre, our action adventure game will include heart-stopping, original gameplay, with powerful narrative sequences carried by innovative and compelling themes - Jean-Maxime Moris, DONTNOD creative director
The game design is the fundamental backbone of our project. The different development departments are in constant communication to make sure that the artistic vision translates into, facilitates, and fuels the immersion of the player - Aleksi Briclot
Of course, this is all just potential and promises at this stage, so we'll be sure to check them out at Gamescom and see what they're coming up with.
