10 Million Sales Spark Merchandise, Ports
Doodle Jump may have made headlines recently for attempting to purge the word "doodle" from the App Store, but there's no denying that this 59p game is still one of the quintessential mobile gaming experiences. Developer Lima Sky has announced that sales have topped ten million downloads, and to capitalise on their success, will be bringing Doodle Jump to XBLA with full Kinect functionality. Oh, and there'll be more licensed merchandise than you can shake an overpriced pencil at.
"After such incredible first two years, it is safe to say Doodle Jump has exceeded even our wildest imaginations," states Lima Sky founder Igor Pusenjak, who is proud to announce that Doodle Jump has broken the 10 million download threshold as of this morning. For those who don't know, this adorable little game challenges players to guide their adorable character (the titular Doodler, natch) through unending stages using slick tilt controls... and after their success on mobile platforms, Lima Sky plan to bring a similar experience to XBLA.
Details are still thin on the ground, though we do know that Kinect support has been confirmed. We assume that players will need to tilt their bodies to manipulate the Doodler (a sentence I don't get to write very often), but so far, only the barest development plans are in place. Apparently a free multiplayer patch is also headed to the iOS version "very soon."
But that's not all. Doodle Jump fans will soon be able to festoon their office space with plenty of themed stationery and drape themselves in all manner of trans-media tat. [via Kotaku]
Pretty impressive for a 59p app, eh? It'll be interesting to see whether this move will encourage other app developers to bring their wares onto Xbox Live Arcade and PSN.
