Schafer's Next Game Is "Extremely, Extremely Manly"
Hot on the heels of Costume Quest and Stacking, Tim Schafer's Double Fine has revealed their latest downloadable title: Trenched. However, there's absolutely nothing whimsical or childish about this one. Schafer promises that the mix of massive honking mechs, brutal combat and a little tower defence will be "extremely, extremely manly." More details below.
Trenched was announced at the very end of the annual GDC awards ceremony by Tim Schafer himself, who believes that the project will be incredibly macho indeed. From what we gather, players will control a fully-customisable mech in combat with the brutal Monovision forces (who appear to be an alien/television hybrid). Turrets and munitions can be deployed remotely, making for a mix of action and tower defence that should fit very nicely on Xbox Live Arcade. Singleplayer and cooperative multiplayer will both be present.
Naturally there'll be plenty of tongue-in-cheek humour; usually directed at the 'manly' protagonists themselves.
Trenched has also been confirmed as a surprise Xbox 360 exclusive and will be published by Microsoft Games Studios. Considering how polished it looks at present, we'll probably be seeing this within the next few months. Double Fine's new downloadable focus is really paying off, and we can't wait to get our hands on this one. [Joystiq]
