The shroud has been lifted, the characters have all appeared, and now we know what Ron Gilbert has been up to at Double Fine - he's been beavering away on a platform-adventure title called The Cave.
The game will centre around seven playable characters—the monk, the adventurer, the hillbilly, the scientist, the twins, the knight and the time-traveller.
A handful of US journalists were privy to a presentation from Gilbert himself, with Kotaku reporting that each of the seven characters is "looking for something" in the cave, with Gilbert suggesting that the cave (and presumably what's inside) represents something different for each character - a darkness within themselves that they have to face before they can move on.
Apparently at the start of the game, players will choose three characters from the seven, and will control those three throughout the game. The game can be played in singleplayer, switching between characters much like in Trine or the LEGO games, or with two other players in co-op.
SEGA have confirmed that they'll be publishing the game, and The Cave should be out on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 in early 2013.
