EA should make huge robots play football, suggests UK charts

I hope you're well-rested after a relaxing long weekend of a thousand annoying chores (fingers crossed that you managed to sneak in a beer somewhere between Ronsealing the fence and driving up the M1 to see the folks), so let's ease back into the swing of things with the latest UK charts.

Trials Fusion was last week's best new entry, which released on next-gen consoles as a £15.99 download or £30 retail box including the season pass. It's a fantastic game, though it debuted at seventh, since its physical copy was thoroughly outgunned by the likes of Titanfall and FIFA World Cup. EA should seriously look into combining football and massive robots soon, surely? Even as a Titanfall mode, it'd practically print money.

I'm also delighted that Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare is sticking around. PopCap are constantly adding new free content to their surprisingly deep and addictive shooter, which deserves a thriving player base.

UK Charts: Week Ending 19th April, 2014 (previous chart position in parentheses, links to reviews where appropriate)

  1. Titanfall (3)
  2. FIFA World Cup Brazil (new)
  3. LEGO The Hobbit (2)
  4. FIFA 14 (3)
  5. Call Of Duty: Ghosts (5)
  6. South Park: The Stick of Truth (4)
  7. Trials Fusion (new)
  8. Minecraft: The Review It Already Guys Edition (6)
  9. The LEGO Movie Videogame (7)
  10. Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare (8)

Presumably the Trials figure is for boxed retail copies only? I imagine that digital downloads have sold pretty well

JonLester  Apr. 22, 2014 at 11:21

@stevenjameshyde: Yes, almost certainly. Chart-Track are now a bit better at factoring Steam/PC downloads into the equation though, so expect a boost soon.

Out of interest, does anyone else love the Trials Fusion theme tune? Absolutely adore it, but seem to be alone in that opinion.

"WELCOME TO THE FUTURE! MAN! MACHINE! THE FUTUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"

Well, Second Son sure dropped like a rock...!

I've honestly never heard it beyond the first line - that's about how long it takes to get straight into the racing. Based on that small sample, though, I'd say it's not a patch on the Evolution theme

Hate the "Welcome to the Future" theme!

(And the extreme levels. But that's just because I'm rubbish at them!)

Sounds awesome to me.

Late  Apr. 23, 2014 at 13:05

Don't listen to it - it's a total earworm.

JonLester  Apr. 23, 2014 at 13:13

Ah yes, it's been stuck in my head for over a week. Sorry!

In case it does get stuck in your head, here are a couple of antidotes:

Open in case of mild earworming.

Critical earworming ONLY.

EDIT: Actually, this could make a fun top ten down the line. Videogame music that gets stuck in your head - suggestions, anyone?

IloMilo. Haven't played the game in over two years, and I can still hear every note

stevenjameshyde  Apr. 23, 2014 at 14:55

Here's the link, in case you're not familiar with it. Be sure to keep listening until 1.14 when the kazoos enter

Lately I've been struggling to shift the common battle victory music from Final Fantasy from my brain. You know the one. They've used it in most of the games in the franchise.
It's partly because I've been dipping into FF:VI on my phone from time to time in recent months - but it's been about 3 weeks since I last played it and it's still "bugging" me.
(Quote marks because I do like the tune!)
Youtube reminder for anyone who's lucky enough to have forgotten it.

All time catchiest game music for me, though, has to be Tetris (that's twice I've mentioned Tetris on here today. Perhaps I should dig out my gameboy).
Youtube link, not that it's necessary - surely everyone can instantly recall that one without trying.
Sorry if that's now going to bug you for the rest of the day!

stevenjameshyde  Apr. 23, 2014 at 15:52

Rayman Origins. I challenge you to listen to that and stay sane for the rest of the day

Late  Apr. 23, 2014 at 16:01

Oh, Rayman's got loads! :D

This particular Underwater one cracks me up every time I hear it, though.

JonLester  Apr. 23, 2014 at 16:01

@stevenjameshyde: Ooh, that's a very good shout indeed. This one does it for me, though. :D The bubbly solo cracks me up!

I should also point out that the soundtrack is totally available on iTunes/Amazon. Just to cover any and all bases. ;)

EDIT: And... wow. So Late posted exactly the same song while I was writing this comment. Spooky.

EDIT 2: And the same exact video URL. Cripes. Just shows how awesome Murray Of The Deep is, I suppose!

That's actually the Rayman track I wanted, but couldn't remember the name of the level! I'd argue that Piping Hot is every inch it's equal, though

LittleBigPlanet has loads of the beggars too

lol :D
