EA: Spain will knock England out of World Cup quarter finals

According to EA Sports, Germany are going to be the first European nation to win the World Cup on South American soil.

And we're going home in the quarter finals, knocked out by Spain 2-0.

EA made these predictions based on FIFA World Cup Brazil, the official videogame tie-in, which they used to run "simulations" of the competition under the same conditions. According to their findings, Germany will beat Brazil 2-1, while England scrape through to the quarter finals (1-1 vs Columbia, 4-3 on penalties) before being solidly beaten by Spain.

It sounds... all too plausible... but can playing a videogame really account for all the variables? Here are the relevant brackets below - and we definitely want to know what you make of it.

I'll be amazed if we get out of the group!

I don't think this simulation is quite accurate. For starters England would never win on penalties, and Uruguay would never score twice in the quarter finals, what with Suarez being banned for 110 matches after that unfortunate incident in the Ivory Coast game

Too true. I can also see Suarez being racist AND biting someone in the same game, leading to the entire continent of South America being banned from Earth.

Having said that, Uruguay have won it twice...

I think Uruguay's wins were quite a while back. That's not to belittle them, mind. I'm not saying you're rubbish if your team hasn't won a major tournament in the last fifty years or so - after all, it's 48 years since England scraped their trophy and we're obviously the best.

But I'm with Chris. I'll be well surprised if we make it to the knock out stage.

Fingers crossed though. I'm well up for this, and we could make it. We could win the World Cup. I've got my shirt, I've got some time booked off, I'm running the office predictions league.
