Do you love Ecco The Dolphin? Want a spiritual sequel? Well, due to the magic of Kickstarter, you can now put your money where your mouth is.

The Big Blue, " a next generation, underwater, action/adventure game by the original Ecco the Dolphin team," will take players through an enormous ocean set a million years into Earth's future, brought to life with the Unity Engine (that will naturally allow for multiple release platforms including PC, Mac, iOS, Android and OUYA for starters). The team, headed by Ed Annunziata, plans to "create the most beautiful water and lighting effects ever seen," accompanied by a soundtrack from Battlestar Galactica's Bear McCreary.

Gameplay will resemble previous Ecco games, but allows players to control any creature - or swarm of creatures - at any time. Here's the elevator pitch:

The Big Blue is a massive adventure game. The basic game play involves the following:

  • Exploration
  • Quests
  • Collection and spawning of life forms
  • Action puzzle solving

The Big Blue will be a highly unique play experience and will include these unique game play features:

  • All Creatures are controllable
  • Control multiple creatures at the same time (like a swarm)
  • Aquascape and populate your own small sea
  • Breed and multiply creatures to be used for various purposes (like quest assistance)

You can read the full pitch over on the Kickstarter landing page.

Hopefully, they'll make it ever-so-slightly-less impossible, so people can actually finish it.:D
