The Elder Scrolls Online Will Have Microtransaction Store On Top Of Subscriptions

We recently learned that The Elder Scrolls Online will require a £8.99 monthly subscription, but apparently there'll also be a store to fritter away our small change.

Game director Matt Firor was once again responsible for spilling the beans, this time to AusGamers. "There won’t be anything like bonus points, but we will have a shop to buy kind of fun stuff and services too like name changes and things like that.”

He continued by assuring fans that these premium itemson to explain that premium items won't be “part of the core game, anything included in the core game is included in the subscription price."

This will likely prove unpopular with many potential punters, especially since Firor said this yesterday:

"Just having one small monthly fee for 100% access to the game fits the IP and the game much better than a system where you have to pay for features and access as you play." Erm, right.

Since all the cool kids are doing it, though, perhaps microtransactions just the cost of doing business these days?

Even though they say these items aren't part of the core game, they don't clarify that they don't fall under the pay-to-win bracket.

The monthly subscription bothers me more than microtransactions to be honest. There's plenty of similar games that don't have subscription fees so I've never seen the point in playing a game that has them.

I don't think I'll be playing this until the subscription gets dropped - I give it a year, tops
