It Has Lots Of Stuff
Ah, Collector's Editions; the bane of any gamer's existence. Or something a little less dramatic, maybe. We both love and the hate the well-stocked Collector's Edition. On the one hand, who doesn't love statues? Well, a lot of us; and yet we keep buying them, so publishers keep making and selling them. Take Bethesda, for example; they've just announced the Collector's Edition for Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. And guess what? It has a statue!
So, the statue. Standing 30.5cm tall and made from high quality PVC, the miniature replica of Skyrim's primary antagonist, the world-eating dragon Alduin perches atop one of the dragon walls players can find in the game to learn the mythical beasts' ancient language. Did you know when an Elder Scrolls dragon breathes flames, he's actually talking? No wonder we don't get along.
Next up, the customary art-book, with over 200 pages of "striking, full-colour illustrations, sketches and models". It's sure to be a delight for fans of the Elder Scrolls world, and a fantastic footrest for others. And finally, the Collector's Editions bounty rounds out for a behind-the-scenes DVD, detailing all of Bethesda's work re-building the engine, realizing their dream of in-game dragons and ensuring faces aren't so insultingly hideous this time around.
All in all, a solid offering, but again, not very exciting. That said, I'm sure a lot of you would love to have a lovingly crafted model of a dragon looming over your desk.
