We broke the news yesterday that Gears of War 3, Microsoft's upcoming September blockbuster, had been leaked on to the net, albeit a raw, unfinished copy. The would-be hacker had plundered the entire game's code, it would seem, as videos of the single player, Horde and Beast modes all popped up online. Roused from their weekend break and ready to rumble, Epic have released a statement addressing the leak.
"We have seen the reports of Gears of War 3 content being propped on the Web and working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation," explains Epic's head of PR, Dana Cowley. In the leaked videos, you can clearly see the word BETA stamped on the title screen, and unfinished art assets, exposed geometry and frequent glitches all but confirm it's a very, very rough copy of the game.
"This content is not from a final build and is not representative of what fans will enjoy when the game launches worldwide on 20th September 2011," confirms Cowley, who'll probably be nipping off now to sharpen her axe in preparation for a public execution when the would-be hacker is apprehended. Or maybe she'll just grab a cup of tea; who knows.
We'll have more for you on the Gears of War 3 leak as it develops. In the meantime, we suggest steering clear of the likes of Youtube and Gears 3 forums, where spoilers will be aplenty.
