Free-to-play FPS Dust 514 will merge with EVE Online servers from tomorrow, bringing the two games (and platforms) together into the same universe. Let the orbital bombardments commence!
Though Dust 514 is still in closed beta on PS3, EVE Online capsuleers will be able to interact with players and vice versa. And by interact, we mean via the business end of orbital bombardment cannons. Ships will have to remain in close contact with allied ground troops to fully bring their weapons to bear.
Dust 514 players can join corporations, chat with EVE Online players and influence the state of the persistent universe by winning territory battles. Money transfers won't be available until a later date, since CCP are still working out how best to integrate a free-to-play title with the existing economy.
"This is a massive technical and game design endeavour and so the overlap in gameplay is intentionally contained for now," CCP explains in a new blog post. "It is of course very important that we do not upset the serious business of internet spaceships."
"We are already hard at work on the next expansion where you will see things like player owned districts, tighter economic integration and more incentives for EVE characters and corporations to take part in the politics, logistics and outcomes of DUST 514 battles. The design teams will be working with the CSM this year to make sure these plans sit well with capsuleers and mercenaries alike."
"We absolutely cannot wait to get this journey started with you and it all kicks off this Thursday."
Dust 514 will enter open beta later this year, ahead of a full release.
