Plans To Bring Decent Prices To The High Street
Massive bargain-hunting community site HotUKDeals has placed a bid for five GAME stores, Dealspwn can exclusively announce. Under the terms of the proposed partnership, the online powerhouse would transform several high street shopfronts into competitively-priced destination venues staffed by HotUKDeals volunteers.
"Gamers are hungry for bargains, and the HUKD community are the best at what they do," a HUKD spokesperson explained via satellite phone from a Virgin Galactic shuttle (for which he recently found a competitive deal). "But what if we could deliver the deals ourselves? By buying several key GAME stores, we can reinvent the high street with a totally radical sales model: offering prices that are actually half-decent rather than crazily overpriced. £34.98 for Gears Of War 3? Seriously?"
Sources close to the company's upper echelons have hinted that overhead costs could be reduced by changing the HotUKDeals terms of service to legally compel members to volunteer in the new flagship stores for a few hours per week; using HotUKDeals and on-site price comparison engine Gamebase to dynamically price-check stock across the board. As an HUKD blog, Dealspwn.com members will be similarly affected.
In an impressive display of forward-thinking, these new shops would be far more than just sterile, regular retailers. Instead, a comfortable communal area, regular streetpass/local multiplayer events, licensed bar and ball pit would encourage gamers to treat them as their home on the high street, a safe haven from the bustle of day-to-day life.
With OpCapita, RBS and Gamestop also interested in the retailer, we can expect confirmation within the next few days. As your humble servants, we will endeavour to keep you up to date with the latest lies.
