ExPlay, the British independent gaming festival, will be held in Bath from Wednesday 31st October to Friday 1st November. Thomas Was Alone creator Mike Bithell has been confirmed as keynote speaker (perhaps to his surprise?) to discuss his mysterious new title, while countless other indie games, developers, panels and events will be on show during the three days.
We've got the details after the break.
ExPlay 2013 will take place in Bath's 17th Century Assembly Rooms and Roman Baths, playing host to an expanded programme of games talks, panels, parties and competitions. This year will also mark the debut of the Indie Games Olympics, "where attendees can compete for the highest overall score (and prizes) across all games exhibited. This new addition to the festival programme, opening for submissions shortly, will provide some exclusive airtime for the games on show and immortality in the ExPlay Hall of Fame."
In terms of overarching theme, ExPlay 2013 plans to cover emergent trends in the industry, with panels and seminars to be announced over the coming weeks.
“We are delighted to be returning to Bath again, after last year’s festival brought together so many people from across the UK," says Festival Director Ella Romanos said. "This year, we are focusing on continuing our great speaker line up, plus introducing some fun new events in our expo area, and also providing more opportunities for great networking.
We are inviting everyone involved in the games industry around the UK to get involved, as we continue to mix new and established talent together, from students and grads, to startups and established companies. We have a broad range of speakers and activities lined up, so expect some very exciting announcements soon.”
If you're an indie developer looking to network, aspiring designer, game design student or just fancy checking it out, tickets and places are now available with an early bird discount. We'll post more details as we get them.
