F.E.A.R. 3 never quite lives up to its name, but it is a solid and enjoyable shooter in its own right. Dave's full review should bring you up to speed on this action-oriented romp (no, it isn't scary, ever), which caters towards fans of persistent levelling and set pieces rather than horror afficionados. Playing as Paxton Fettel is a real highlight as you can posess and psychically brutalise your enemies instead of relying on standard FPS gunplay. Personally, I reckon that the franchise has gone as far as it can go, but F.E.A.R. 3 is still rollickingly good fun with a mate along for the ride.
PC owners will have probably picked this up for tuppence already (figuratively), but for Xbox 360 players, here's a nifty sub-£10 price courtesy of Play.com.
We featured this deal a couple of months ago, but since it's still in stock and kicking arse, we're bringing it to your attention once again. Simply Games are charging less than twenty quid for FEAR 3 on the PS3, which will save you a fair bit of small change. Simply Games are continuing to lower the price on the PS3 version of F.E.A.R. 3, following on from the deal we highlighted a few weeks ago by lowering their offer by a fiver. It means you can save almost £7 in comparison to the next best deal coming from Amazon. However, is the price drop worth giving the latest entry in the F.E.A.R. series a look? If you’re looking for a scary game, probably not. If you’re looking for a fairly entertaining co-op title with some interesting if run-of-the-mill multiplayer modes, it could well be. Be sure to read Dave’s review for the full scoop. Thanks to goonertillidie @ HUKD!
Unfortunately, there's almost no chance whatsoever that F.E.A.R. 3'll scare you in any way whatsoever, which is a bit disappointing for a horror game. Luckily the supernatural edge to the multiplayer provides you with a bit of a change from normal first person shooter gameplay and can be a lot fun too, although a few extra maps in the future'd be nice. You can grab an Xbox 360 copy of the game from ShopTo for £27.85, which'll make you a saving of over £1.50 on the next best offer coming in from Game Gears.
Sadly F.E.A.R. 3 won't have you jumping behind the sofa, or furiously scrabbling about in the dark for your light switches or pull cords because it's just not that scary. I quite enjoyed the supernatural edge the multiplayer had though because it brings a bit of variety to the standard shooter formula, but it could do with a bit of DLC in the future. You can get hold of a PC copy of the game from Simply Games for £24.85, which'll save you over £3 on the next best offer coming in from The Game Collection.
