Fable: The Journey Release Date Also Leaked By Microsoft
Lionhead's mysterious countdown is set to terminate in a matter of hours... but has been completely declawed by a couple of premature Xbox Live Marketplace listings. Microsoft has accidentally outed Fable Heroes: a cartoony cooperative brawler for Xbox Live Arcade complete with a mine cart minigame.
Just to add insult to injury, Microsoft also unwittingly leaked a firm release date for Kinect spin-off Fable: The Journey. We've got the full - and thoroughly bizarre - details below along with some screenshots.
Fable Heroes is described as a "fresh spin on the beloved Fable franchise" by the new Xbox Live Arcade listing, and they're certainly not wrong. Up to four players will be able to choose a cutesy cartoon character and cooperative in some streamlined arcade multiplayer brawling. A selection of minigames, including a mine cart race and board game, also appear to be on the cards. Multiple powerups will be on offer. The art style is attractive but overtly child-friendly, suggesting a more lighthearted tone for the franchise (if such a thing was possible).
Wow. We really don't know what to make of this, and certainly didn't see it coming in our recent PWNcast discussion. What we do know, though, is that Albion's parody game world is probably suited for games like this as opposed to epic RPGs.
But Microsoft aren't done leaking info just yet. Fable: The Journey, Lionhead's Kinect title, was given an official September 4th release date on the Xbox Live Marketplace as spotted by CVG. Microsoft has since updated the release date with a joke, but I'm afraid the cat is very much out of the bag now.
Lionhead will release more details about both games once the countdown terminates later today.
