Ahead of an announcement to be made at Comic-Con today, those who registered early interest in Family Guy Online through its official website were sent an email this morning alerting them to the fact that a character creator mode was now live on the website. Along with the launch, more details were revealed for the upcoming online experience.
The surge of registrants to the website caused it to fall into a maintenance mode after this morning’s email, but as of now the website is in working order. This comes a month after the website initially emerged with few details, but with the launch we now know that FGO will be a “free-to-play, browser-based, 3D adventure” that will allow you to explore the fictional town of Quahog, as well as meet the many characters from the hit TV show.
The character creator mode sheds light on four of the classes that will be available, using the Griffin Family as templates for the MMO holy trinity of tanks, damage and healers. Users can also create their own avatars in the style of the show, which will remain listed and ready for the launch of the closed beta when it starts later this year.
Before you ask, there’s no option to be the evil monkey. For now at least.
That’s all for the moment. When more information becomes available for the online title we’ll be sure to let you know. You can check out the official website and create your own characters here.
So then Dealspwners, do we have any Family Guy fans keeping an eye on this? Do you think it will be able to follow in the stops of other browser-based MMOs like Battlestar Galactica Online? Perhaps you consider it a waste of time? Tell us when you think in the comments!
