Fear 2: Project Origin £11.95 @ Zavvi [PS3 Games]If you missed out on the previous Fear 2 deal posted by Lydia, where the game was going for just £9.99 on The Game Collection, the bad news is that Fear 2 has gone back up to £16.99. However don’t despair as good old Zavvi are now offering Fear 2: Project Origin for £11.95. Of course, this is not quite as hot as the previous deal but given that the next cheapest price comes in at £14.99 according to price comparison, it’s certainly not bad.

Fans of those bullet-time massacres you could pull off in the first Fear edition won’t be disappointed by Fear 2. The game mechanics and combat system make this a superb FPS which is just as engaging and intense as its predecessor. In an attempt to make combat sequences a bit more varied – I actually found that fire fights in the first Fear game got quite repetitive – Fear 2 provides a couple of much needed new features. The most obvious is the ability to get inside mechanical suits and unleash an arsenal of rockets and heavy machine gun fire against your opponents.

This is certainly a welcome addition, and it’s nice to see the developers attempting to rectify the problems which plagued the first Fear edition. The levels are also a bit more varied – the player is frequently diverted from the game’s usual corridor/office setting onto the streets and, at one point, into a school. However the big problem with Fear 2 is regarding the storyline which simply cannot compare to its predecessor. Rather than working the player up into a state of pure terror with great atmospherics, Fear 2 goes in more for cheap scares which can be quite predictable. As a horror title, Fear 2 is a bit of a let down, but as a first person shooter it’s just as much fun as ever. Fear 2: Project Origin £11.95 @ Zavvi [PS3 Games]
