If there is one cliché I am seriously bored to tears with, it's the spooky-little girl-with-pale-skin-and-hair-covering-her-face which has been so prevalent in the horror genre in recent years. Yawn-o-rama. For this reason I felt seriously put off the original F.E.A.R. (and the fact that the name of the girl in question is the decidely unspooky “Alma” did nothing to help matters) but happily that turned out to be a great game, deftly mixing fps and horror elements to brilliant effect. I'm pleased to say that if you are a fan of the original then you will probably really enjoy the follow up a whole lot too, though sadly it does not quite match the quality of its predecessor.
All the core elements of the original are here, including the super slow-mo combat, enhanced AI and martial arts attacks. Unfortunately the horror side of things feels a bit tired and predictable now, though there are some pleasantly macabre scenes and sound is used to great effect to give you the chills, but the shooting is still solid and lots of fun. Overall Project Origin is a bit of a disappointment but still a good game, making it well worth a play through if you've got nothing better on the cards.
