F.E.A.R. 3 Multiplayer Modes Revealed

We're looking forward to seeing what Warner Bros have in store for us in F.E.A.R. 3... as well as whether they can pull off the cooperative horror mechanics without losing any of the scares. However, WB have now blown the lid off of the multiplayer modes that will ship with the game, all of which are based on cooperation and classic horror movies. F**king Run, Contradictions, Soul Survivor and Soul King are set to be much more innovative than the usual deathmatch options that tend to ship with FPS titles, and we've got full details after the break.

For your delectation, here are F.E.A.R. 3's multiplayer modes in all their glory:

  • F**cking Run!:  Inspired by the cover of John Carpenter's Prince Of Darkness, this game mode challenges a team of four operatives to battle their way through packed labyrinthine arenas and race against Alma's implacable Wall Of Death. Time is of the essence, and if any of the team are touched by the inexorably-advancing wall, it's game over for everyone. Hence the name.
  • Contractions: This gametype is inspired by John Carpenter's The Fog. It's basically a horde mode in which you'll defend an area from waves of hostiles, but in an added twist, a supernatural fog gradually thickens over the battlefield. "Dangerous things lurk in the fog, including Alma herself," apparently.
  • Soul Survivor: Players have to cooperatively fend off attacks, but during the match, one of them is corrupted by Alma and has to corrupt/kill the rest of the team without being spotted. Who will be the soul survivor [groan]? According to the press release, this one's based on 30 Days Of Night.
  • Soul King: No, this isn't a James Brown-themed mode. All players start the round as spirits who can possess human enemies, and will need to scrap over the most valuable meat puppets. Kills mean points, and the winner is eventually crowned the Soul King. Tip: go for the snipers early.

F.E.A.R. 3 is set for a multiplatform May release. Why not check out our hands-on preview for more singleplayer details?
