The F Is for Free
Since the F.E.A.R. franchise is best known for its mechs and team-based warfare, Warner Bros have tasked Inplay Interactive with turning it into a free to play multiplayer FPS.
FEAR Online will pit two teams against each other in a range of modes, including FEAR 3's 'Soul King,' deathmatches and 'knife only' engagements. Armored Front will resemble a standard domination gametype, only each team has a mech. There'll also be a cooperative PvE portion, which continues the story of Alma Wade and the tragedy surrounding the Armacham Technology Corporation. It's currently seeking beta testers.
It's an oppressively muggy Friday afternoon and I'm running on empty, so frankly I don't have the energy to editorialise on this one much. Do we need FEAR Online? Does it need to exist? These are questions for us- and its beta testers - to eventually answer. Crushing time will have to wait.
I should point out that F.E.A.R.'s multiplayer component was released for free ages ago as F.E.A.R. Combat.
