A Feast For The Eyes: X Rebirth Video Goes Big On Scale

Graphics aren't everything, they really aren't. But we like looking at nice things, and this developer diary for X Rebirth is stuffed with nice things.

When it comes to space sims, Egosoft know a thing or two about creating detailed, interconnected environments and systems, but Rebirth is looking more vast in terms of ambition than ever before.

All of the cities and factories in X Rebirth are all made up of smaller buildings ad modules (which are still huge), and players will be able to fly in, around, on, and through them. We'll be able to get out of our ships and walk upon them, and affect the galactic economy by blowing them up should we wish.

All of these little parts are important, all of them have some impact -- an impact that will be felt if they're destroyed. Watch the video, bask in the shininess, marvel at the intricate detail, and thank whatever deity/celebrity you pray to that the next couple of years are going to be awesome for space fans.

X Rebirth is expected on PC later this year.

That would be amazing... I don't usually even look at space sim stuff, but this looks amazing and would be so good with Oculus.

Off I go to the dev's site to ask nicely!!

Also, FYI: X Rebirth will be released for PC in Europe on the 15th of November 2013 and in North America on the 19th of November 2013.

It's weird, the Oculus is. Lots of people think it would be great for FPS but in reality it's games like this it would really shine. Games where you are sitting down for the best part. Euro truck Sim 2 would be amazing with the Oculus.

I loved X-BTF, then sort of lost my way with the series.. I should go back but which one? There are so many (i think i have them all in Steam). If I was starting afresh, which current X game should I start with?

I think that anything with a 3D cockpit would be a perfect fit for the Rift - it gives you a fixed reference point as you look around. Either way, more X can only be a good thing, Oculus or no.
