So far, PES 2011 has run unopposed as the 3DS' sole footy game... but this is about to change. EA have announced that FIFA 12 will be hitting the handheld this autumn, along with online multiplayer modes, enhanced touchscreen controls, 500 clubs and tailored 3D visuals. We've got the full details below, sports fans.
EA have proudly stated that FIFA 12 will be "will be the best football game for 3DS" as well as the most fully-featured sports title to ever release on a handheld platform... and on paper, it looks like they're probably right. FIFA 12 will feature 500 licensed clubs along with the hundreds of players, updated transfer lists and kits that you'd expect from the franchise. It'll also pack a nifty new set of optional touchscreen controls that will allow players to draw the course of a ball during free kicks and set pieces. It's great to see games letting us choose whether or not to use non-standard control schemes rather than forcing them down our throats.
More excitingly, though, FIFA 12 is set to deliver a large number of game modes - designed for both singleplayer and online competitive matches. The Superstar Mode will uses a curved pitch and lower camera angle to take advantage of the 3D visuals while letting players step into Rooney or Kaka's boots. The popular Be A Pro mode will also make a welcome return. But the best part of the package is likely to be the head-to-head online multiplayer suites and 5 a side functionality.
FIFA 12 is set for an autumn release, and we'll follow its progress over the coming months.
