I have never understood the fascination with watching two grown men beat the living crap out of each other and I have a strong and burning loathing for Mike Tyson and all that he stands for, so it should come as no surprise that I do not own Fight Night Round 4 or, indeed, any of the series.
Nonetheless I present to you this fabulous deal: Zavvi are currently selling the game for just £17.95 - a seven pound saving from the next best offer!
Despite my misgivings, I must concede that it sounds like a good quality title with very respectable reviews from all corners. It has been praised for its fast paced action, excellent graphics and solid mechanics, strong catalogue of playable fighters alongside a good character creation option, top notch sound effects and believable commentary and excellent online play capabilities.
However if this game seeks to prove that boxing is an art, rather than a mindless flurry of punches (which, to be fair, I am sure it doesn't), it has a long way to go as it is apparently all too easy to get by with simple button-mashing (non)techniques. You may be well above that sort of behaviour but bear in mind that others may be far more uncouth and cultured, meaning that online matches have the potential to be extremely frustrating. All I'm saying is, be prepared for controller-hurtling-across-the-room scenarios.
So if the idea of taking on the role of a very chunky man indeed, to take down another, equally chunky, fellow floats your boat or, if you just want to finally put the “Ali versus Tyson – who wins?” argument to bed once and for all, then Fight Night Round 4 may just be the game for you!
