Final Fantasy XIII | £9.95 | Zavvi | PS3 & XBox 360

I can think of no more perfect illustration of the concept "style over substance" than this game. If you are a fan of previous Final Fantasy titles then, unless you are one of the fanboy/girls who point blank refuse to admit to yourself that Squeenix can ever put a foot wrong (in which case why on earth do you not already have FFXIII?!), then I advise steering clear of this utterly disappointing title. If, however, you are a fan of running down corridors, pressing the action button and fighting interminable battles against identikit enemies then you'll probably think this is the best game ever. Thanks to andywedge at Hotukdeals!

I'm an FF fan and I actually liked this.

You only had to write one paragraph- no excuse for undercooked word mush like this:

"Unless you are one of the fanboy/girls who point blank refuse to believe to admit to yourself that Squeenix can ever put a foot wrong (in which case why on earth do you not already have FFXIII?!)"

In the interest of positivity: FFXIII wasn't very good, but the price is... I guess.

Actually, the post was pretty accurate and to the point; what more can be said about the game?

Until you find a site that has entire reviews consisting solely of the words "bad game price good", or "good game you buy now", you'll probably have to put up with the "word mush" between the title and your inane comments a little longer.
It takes more than a little bit of emotional investment to go out of your way to insult the style of an online review. So this is the type of flailing fanboy the twitter generation has spawned: Over-inflated self-importance, automatic online defence mechanism and both the impatience, and the memory of a rose-tinted goldfish?

Were it not for my (likely misplaced, but well intentioned) optimism and the resultant assumption that you are actually just being insightfully ironic, I would be shuddering right now.

To be fair, i, by no means, believe that the game is all bad. I think it all depends on what you were looking for from it.

That wasn't the best phrasing i agree. For some reason the post saved as two separate drafts and i didn't realise and scheduled the earlier, unedited version.

As they say of certain ball sports...it's a game of two halves. One is staggeringly boring, repetitive and shiny, the other is really quite awesome. Unfortunately you have to plod through a 15 hour slog to get there.

If you liked FFXII for the brave shake-up in terms of mechanics (yes it's story and characters were pretty awful) then FFXIII only holds disappointment for you as it's essentially about three giant steps backwards. I'm a FF fan too...I've played all of them apart from the MMORPGs, and I just found this one to be a little too irritating. There's 'saving the best until last' and then there's taking the piss.

As Alan below says though, it's a pretty good price...you'll certainly get a lot of play time out of it...if you don't get bored and wander off.
