Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster £24 at Amazon on PS3

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster | Amazon | £24

You have to laugh sometimes at Square Enix's stubborn refusal to give fans what they really want, a Final Fantasy VII remake. Instead, we have three Final Fantasy XIII games (the first two of which have been bollocks), an online RPG (FFXIV) that was so broken they had to start again, and it looks like Final Fantasy XV is going even further away from the traditional RPG experience. So it shouldn't really have been a surprise when a HD collection nobody asked for was announced for the PS2 double of X and X-2. X was actually pretty good and marked a debut for voiced-characters in the series and the combat system was still turn-based. X-2 was a bit wonky if I'm honest, but maybe we'll give it another shot. This is the best price around for the pre-order and it's worth noting that both games are the International versions with extra content not previously seen in Europe.

Won't buy without Cross-buy!

But, do we still really want a remake of 7?
After all the retconning they did in Crisis core, they'd shoehorn Genesis into the plot as a major character. They'd cut out anything slightly quirky or dodgy like the Honeybee Inn and the crossdressing.. it wouldn't be the same.

I'd hope they would have the sense not to mess with 7, but it wouldn't surprise me much if they did. That's probably why they still haven't remade it, they wouldn't be able to resist.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.
