Great racing games can make or break a console. The Forza series is generally reckoned to be Microsoft's answer to Gran Turismo, and Forza 3 has been flying off store shelves thanks to its enhanced gameplay and graphics. For those who haven't yet invested, however, your patience has been rewarded: ShopTo.net are selling at £19.95 (which is at £4 cheaper than Amazon and most of its closest competitors).
The Forza series has raised the bar for 360 racing excellence, and this latest instalment pushes the envelope even further with sleek graphics, perfect handling and a genuine sense of speed. Most importantly it features 400 licensed cars (not including downloadable content); all of which are customisable and accessible through a well structured RPG-style unlocking system.
Forza 3 marks the début of the rewind feature, allowing you to replay poorly-taken corners and collisions (and stop yourself hurtling humiliatingly into last place!). Purists will naturally disable this feature, but casual gamers will relish the chance to hone their driving skills without the outrageously strict difficulty curve that haunts most racing sims. A whole slew of optional assistance modes are also available; quite literally, the driving experience is as realistic as you want it to be.
An all-new single player season mode is the icing on an already impressive cake. Rather than a standard set of races and challenges, Forza 3 intelligently caters the array of events to the player's ability and unlocked cars. Sure, you'll still have to grind...but at least you'll be able to spend hours on events that you're guaranteed to enjoy!
So, not only is Forza 3 an impressive thoroughbred racing sim, but it's also accessible to the masses who don't have the time to perfect every racing line and corner (though it still rewards those that do). Fans of all abilities will find something to like here- and at a price like this, it's definitely worth checking out.
