Double Eleven will be working with indie studio Mode 7 to bring Frozen Synapse to PlayStation consoles. Frozen Synapse Tactics will apparently be much more than just a port, packing brand new features and a "makeover."
“Frozen Synapse proved that turn-based strategy doesn't have to be about people with misguided beards prodding tanks into lonely hexagons," quipped Mode 7's Paul Taylor, alluding to the fusion of hardcore asynchronous turn-based strategy with quick, accessible gameplay and a built-in social network. "We have put our trust in Double Eleven to translate our original vision for a PlayStation audience; they have impressed us with their commitment to creating a completely new version for Sony's awesome hardware. We can't wait to see what they come up with.”
Double Eleven have plenty of experience with adapting titles for PlayStation Vita, having collaborated on the excellent LittleBigPlanet Vita. “Frozen Synapse for us represents some of the best work coming out of the UK and onto the PC, explained Mark South, COO for Double Eleven. "We know there’s also a great console game in there as well waiting to be realised. We don’t want to give too much away yet, but I will say that Frozen Synapse: Tactics is not simply a transition of the original onto console; we will be giving it a complete Double Eleven makeover.”
Demi Gounari, Art Director on the new project, said “We are thrilled to be working on Frozen Synapse; our vision is to reinvent the game’s aesthetics and interactivity in the same way that Mode7 reinvented strategy gaming with this title.”
We assume that Frozen Synapse Tactics will support cross-platform play, allowing players to start and continue games whether in their lounge or on the move.
We heaped praise upon the original game in our Frozen Synapse review, stating that it represents "the next logical evolution of the turn-based strategy genre. Mode 7 Games have created a perfect foundation for years of addictive tactical fun - and now, dear readers, it's up to us to get involved and ensure that Frozen Synapse becomes the phenomenon it rightly deserves to be."
Frozen Synapse Tactics is slated for "2013," and we'll bring you more as we hear it.
