News of more game delays dominates today’s news roundup. Bioshock 2 and Heavy Rain have been pushed back until early 2010, and the Fallout 3 DLC for the PS3 has been pushed back until September. In other non game delay related news, Activision are hoping to fulfil any Spy fantasies you may have including a pair of night vision goggles in their prestige edition of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Heavy Rain Out In 2010
Quantic Dream has confirmed that the highly anticipated PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain will be pushed back until 2010. CEO of Quantic Dream Guillaume de Fondaumiere announced although the project is on time and on budget a 2010 release would avoid the overcrowded holiday season. “It's not ideal to release a new IP or a new genre just before Christmas, it's a very crowded place to be, and certain games need more space to live their life” according to Fondaumiere. He also believes Heavy Rain’s sale model should compare to that of Little Big Planet, both being “innovative titles that stand out, having almost no direct competition”, leading to slow steady sales, but overall hugely successful. Heavy Rain is currently headed for an early 2010 release. [GamesIndustry]
Bioshock 2 Also Pushed Back
Following Quantic Dreams announcement of a 2010 release for Heavy Rain, Take Two have confirmed the same for Bioshock 2, for presumably the same reasons. Take Two CEO Ben Feder said although it wasn’t an easy decision they "felt that it was essential to invest the additional time to ensure that this title will deliver what its fans expect and deserve." The game is set for early 2010, with a more concrete date likely to be announced soon. [Shacknews]
Call Of Duty Prestige Edition To Include Night Vision Goggles
Any game worth its salt nowadays is released with a limited edition. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 wants to prove its worth its salt and more, as the expensive Prestige edition of Modern Warfare 2 will come with all the extras any limited edition offers plus a set of fully working night vision goggles. A great idea for all you night time spies out there.
Also included in the prestige edition is a token allowing you to download the original Call of Duty on XBLA or PSN, an exclusive art book, and a sculpted soap head of McTavish to store your night vision goggles when not living in the company of owls. Modern Warfare 2 should hit the street this November. [Kotaku]
Fallout 3 DLC Hitting The PS3 In September
A few days ago Bethesda announced they would confirm this week when the PS3 would finally get the long-awaited Fallout 3 downloadable content, initially intended to be available by the end of June. A new update on the Playstation Blog has confirmed Bethesda are now aiming for a September release.
Instead of releasing the DLC in the same order they appeared on the 360 and PC, Broken Steel will be released first as it’s "easily the most requested DLC from our fans”. Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt should follow shortly afterwards, completing the trilogy of DLC released elsewhere. [BlogUsPlaystation]
