Game Developers Choice Awards 2012 Winners

Portal 2 & Bastion Win Big, Skyrim Wins Overall

The GDC Awards were announced in a ceremony last night, and the winner is likely to surprise anyone. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim took top honours, but impressively, Portal 2 scooped up no less than three awards including best narrative and design.

Bastion and Supergiant Games also won two awards for best downloadable game and best newcomer. Well deserved in our book, and we can't wait to see what they're working on now.

In terms of special awards, Deus Ex (and more recently Epic Mickey) creator Warren Spector snagged a Lifetime Achievement Award, while Dave Theurer won the Pioneer Award due to his work creating Missile Command.

Hmmm. What a depressing list :( These are seriously the "best" games?

Skyrim is definitely NOT "game of the year" - but none of the other nominations are worthy either.

The best thing about Skyrim is the soundtrack - 3 CDs (not counting "atmospheres") and it's the best soundtrack I've ever listened to. Simply beautiful and professional full orchestral compositions.

Portal 2 was very polished but it's overrated. I found Portal 1 to be much more engaging in terms of plot and gameplay. There honestly didn't seem to be many puzzles in Portal 2, and they were too easy.

I tried to play Sword & Sorcery on an iPad 2 but it was very boring and my attention span didn't last for more than 20 minutes. I don't get it.

Best Audio and Battlefield 3 isn't even a nomination..... Seriously?
